Heaven-sent

Rain, Rain don’t go away, come and stay please spend the day.

God! I love the rain. It makes me feel cool, refreshed and alive. The summer heat has never been my thing. Give me the bluster of a cool autumn breeze any day.

The rain came out today to bring back to life all the wilted flowers in my yard. With the flowers come the Humming Birds each day. The tinniest little darts of iridescent emerald green faster then the speed of light. They suck up the nectar of the many blooms that flank my walkway through to the back yard. It’s a wonder to watch them through the kitchen window. A cup of hot fresh browed tea with a splash of sweet milk in one hand, Dolce and Rex by my side. Look, look, look another one flashes by. Not easy to catch on my Cannon Sd450.

Living in the South I am not able to grow some of the flowers I grew up with in the North. Long Island with all it’s English Gardens are worth the trip to see in spring and summer. Lush gardens framed in with white picket fences are a delight to be hold. Tulips. Lilly of the Valley, Lilacs, Peonies, Hydrangea, Daffodils, Hyacinths and wild Lady’s Slippers are some of the blooms I miss most. Nothing fills a room with a more intoxicating fragrances then a vase full of lavender, pink and white Lilacs and a small nosegay of Lilly of the Valley. They bloom just in time for my birthday.

Thank you sweet Universe.

As I am partial to the look and mood of an English Garden it’s been a long slow process to figure out what grown best here in the South. Roses, Crape Myrtle, Geraniums, Trumpet Lilies, Four O’clocks and what the Humming Birds live most the Pagoda Plant ( Clerodendrum sp. as Michael always has to tell me) with their tinny orange and yellow blooms fill my yard in summer. When it cools down in the evenings I have been known to go out side to sit and read, but not until then.
